About Fort Wayne

Fort Wayne is a city in the northeastern portion of Indiana. The area covers just over 110 square miles and is home to some 265,000 residents, making it the second-largest and second-most-populated city in Indiana.

The United States Army built Fort Wayne in 1794 and named it in honor of General Anthony Wayne of the Revolutionary War. Its location at the confluence of three rivers — the St. Joseph, St. Mary and Maumee — made Fort Wayne a valuable asset during the War of 1812.

Since becoming a city for civilians in 1823, Fort Wayne has seen periods of growth and decline. Today, the city has numerous thriving industries and houses key engineering centers.
