Group Travel Attractions in San Antonio

The City of San Antonio preserves some of the country’s most incredible tourist attractions. Located in the south-central part of Texas, northerners looking to dodge the winter cold should add this city to their vacation list as it’s not unlikely—in fact, it’s quite common—for the area to go the entire season without any snow at all. Even groups who’ve toured the city in the past can find plenty of new entertainment to warrant a return—the city has been one of the fastest growing in the US over the past decade.

Some of the most well-known attractions that bring in large groups are amusement parks such as Six Flags Fiesta Texas and SeaWorld. Visitors looking to cool off from the July and August heat can cannonball at Splashtown San Antonio in wave pools and over 40 water slides and tube rides. Another one-of-a-kind attraction is Morgan’s Wonderland, a completely wheel-chair accessible theme park designed especially for children and adults with special needs. Remember some motorcoaches are equipped wheelchair lifts; BusRates.com notates these vehicles with the “ADA” designation in each company’s fleet table.

San Antonio is also well known for its authentic Tex-Mex cuisine and has the claim to fame of being the birthplace of chili. Out of the many restaurants in San Antonio, you’ll sure to find a group-friendly option and maybe even stumble into a chili cook-off where you can sample some of the local’s special recipes.

If you need more convincing to add San Antonio to your next itinerary, check out the following area attractions for groups.

River Walk

Spend an afternoon downtown along the banks of the San Antonio River strolling along the walkways of the San Antonio River Walk. One of the most popular locations for tourists to see, it’s a shopper and foodies’ dream, lined with restaurants, bars, and shops. Multiple celebrations take place here throughout the year like Fiesta San Antonio in spring which features a parade of custom-made floats that traverse the river, so be sure to check the calendar to see what events you can catch.

Natural Bridge Caverns

San Antonio offers plenty to see and do downtown above ground and down by the water, but wait to see what lies in store below. Take a tour of the local Natural Bridge Caverns and descend 180 feet below the surface within the largest system of caverns available to tour in Texas. Watch out for bats and discover the 60-foot limestone slab bridge near the cavern entrance that inspired the underground tunnel’s namesake.

Mission San Jose

Take some time to absorb part of the country’s history among the San Antonio Missions National Historic Park. The park features four out of the five historic Catholic missions, constructed in the late 1700s. Some of the most favored missions are the Mission San Jose, which after being a church, was given to the Indians before becoming a home to soldiers and bandits. The most famous mission, of course, is The Alamo. This is the only mission that is not part of the park. Restored in the 1930s, the mission is one of the best-known tourist attractions in San Antonio. The Battle of Alamo took place in 1836; today you can find artifacts from the battle and pieces from the history of the mission itself inside, as it is now a museum. Mexican civil war, Republic of Texas soldiers, Confederate Army members and more spent time at the site over the course of history. Catch a glimpse of this mission’s storied past. More than four million people visit the Alamo each year.
